The AVP

So a few weeks ago my family and some friends went to the AVP tournament that was being held in Boulder, CO. It was a lot of fun. It was an expensive outing, but it was a lot of fun. We got to see all the big players play and they were good games. If it comes to your area I would encourage you to go, it is a lot of fun. I have some pictures of it in my photo album.

Polo

So I recently got a chance to experience my first Polo match. While I will have to say it is a pretty fun sport to watch, no one goes there to watch the game. Sometimes you almost get the feeling it is just a place for rich people to go and say "Hi, I am rich. You must be rich too."

The tent that is set up to keep you out of the sun makes it nice. It get a nice day under a tent with some good food to hangout with friends, family and enjoy a little polo. I will have to say though that the tent is to far away from the field to really get into the game. It is fun to get down close to the field and really listen to the players yell and try to direct each other while they try and navigate their horse around the field.

The NHL

Ok let me first start by saying that I am not an NHL fan. Never have been and probably never will be. I do like professional sports though. I love basketball and football. I have really struggled with the state of the NBA over the past few years and this last year just could not stand to watch it anymore. The NFL is really the last professional sport that I can find joy in watching and getting into. The constant lock-outs, free agency and players jumping from team to team for a bigger an bigger contract are just killing me in my desire to like these sports.

This is what brings us to the NHL. NHL player Jeremy Roenick recently talked to the press about the NHL lock-out that killed last season before it started and looks to do the same this year. What he said to reporters totally epitomizes why fans are sick of professional athletes! He says this about the fans that complain about the lock-out saying that pro athletes make to much money..  'You guys are just jealous'. He goes so far to say this to the fans "We're going to try to make it better for everybody, period, end of subject. And if you don't realize that, then don't come,". Is he really trying to say that raising ticket prices is better for the fans (happens because of higher salary caps and player salaries)! Is he really trying to say that him making more money is better for the fans! Saying things like "We don't want you at the rink, we don't want you in the stadium, we don't want you to watch hockey," is a great way to win fans back after a year of lock-out.

"I say personally, to everybody who called us 'spoiled,' you guys are just jealous"  -Jeremy Roenick

Well Jeremy I do not care who you are. If you make millions of dollars doing something you love to do you are spoiled! There are millions of people that can barely find a way to put food on the table for their kids by doing work that they hate and if you have so little compassion that all you can do is call them jealous!!! Well all I can say back is that I hope you never play again!

The NBA

I use to be a huge NBA fan. I love basketball. It is the best sport in my opinion. Growing up I use to love watching the NBA. I was a Bulls fan (started in the early days before they could even get out of the fist round of the playoffs, so don't call me a bandwagon fan), but I would watch pretty much every team play (except maybe the Clippers in those days). I am sad to say though that because of the current state of the NBA I have not watch a game all season. In fact I tried to watch a few games of the teams I try to like. After about 15 min I just had to turn it off. The NBA is just junk ball now. The NBA is full of a bunch of winy gangsters that only care about "getting theirs    ." There are still a few classy players in the NBA like Tim Duncan, Jason Kidd, etc. but for the most part you are stuck with players like Iverson and Carmelo Anthony that while talented do nothing but polute and dirty the game up. I use to hate the fact that we were bring guys in from over seas to play in the NBA, but now I really like it. The Olympics showed us just how much the internaltion game has improved and how much the talent in the U.S. has gone down. I actually do not think it is talent that has gone down as much as their lack of drive to play as a team and to be good at the basics like free throws!!!! The U.S. players just want to showboat. The international players understand motion offense, playing as a team, how to pass the ball around. Most of the NBA players just dribble the ball trying to penitrate and after 20 seconds when they cannot they take a bad shot. So now that we are importing like 30 international players a year maybe quality of play in the NBA will start going back up.

I say include the 5 second call in the NBA so these freaks start passing the ball and get some ball movement going and the star cannot stand around and dribble for 25 seconds.

I will not get started on the officals in the NBA. I will leave that for a later blog.
